Captor X

Captor X

The latest captor has got bells and whistles to play and record a tube amp silently …

Captor X

Power or no power

Without power, the captor only works as an attenuator.
You have to plug the power outlet provided with the device otherwise no sound will come out from either the headphones or the XLR outs (have not tried phantom power yet).

Factory Sound

Factory speakers (IRs) that come with unit have a lot of reverb.
The space knob do not remove the reverb.
Since I use a combo, I can very easily compare the sound of my speaker with the sound of the IRs. Factory sound has a lot of sag
that becomes annoying and unbearable. I downloaded the Two Notes app to solve those issues.

App

The Torpedo Wireless App is available on the PlayStore .I paired the device with my phone. I did not have to register, enter my email, etc.
Still, to succeed pairing, you have to enter three times zero, followed by the last three digits of the device ID available either on the box or on the back of the unit.

Once connected, the IR’s and cabinets loaded and were available for modification within the phone app.

The App is really useful to get the sound that you want. You can load your own IR, change cabinets, add a room effect, etc.

So what ?

I think the best way to get the sound that you want will always be to compare it to a real speaker attached to the amp. Miking a speaker is not my goal yet but it is nice to have that option available.

The modified IRs remain in the unit and are available without a phone on 6 physical presets as well as 122 more through midi if you have use controller.

SSD-Z

Information tool for SSD and other disk devices

You know CPU-Z right?

SSD-Z is an information tool for Solid State Drives and other disk devices.
Using a database, it will show information about your SSD, such as the controller, processing tech, NAND type etc.
Other useful information related to disk devices are also shown, such as S.M.A.R.T. status and partition layout.

Features

– Details of the controller and processing tech of NAND chips (for known devices). – Verify that TRIM is enabled for your system and SSDs. – S.M.A.R.T. status and full list of all the device’s available attributes. – List of all partitions. Including hidden, unmapped and boot partitions. – Benchmark IOPS, transfer speed and random access time (work in progress) – View the raw device identify data words.

Missing Features in Beta

– Some formatted SMART values may display incorrectly. Bytes written/read especially. – No individual details for each drive in a RAID array. – No SMART attributes for certain external USB drives. – Benchmark not fully implemented. – Support for NVMe devices is incomplete.

Contribute

Are the details for your SSD not being shown, or are they incorrect, then please help out. Within SSD-Z, make sure the SSD in question is selected, then go to the Submit tab. Now fill in any comments you may have, and add your email if you wish. Then submit the data to the online database.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: SSD-Z does not seem to know my SSD. A: Please use the submission feature for your SSD. Q: Certain SMART attributes does not show a formatted or raw value. A: This is because the raw value is zero. Zeros are not shown by design. Q: Why is the benchmark feature so bad? A: This area of SSD-Z is incomplete, and is still work in progress.

degoogle > a list of alternatives

I don’t have anything to hide, but I don’t have anything to show you either

Online services, including free of charge software that you use on a daily basis retain the rights to scan, analyze, and depict your profile for “research and performance improvement purposes”. At the end of the day, it will be transfered to the highest bidder.

github degoogle

Still,  there are alternatives to regain sovereignty over what  happens on your device once you’ re online. For instance, a project called “Cutting Google out of your life” provides a solid list of links including search engines, applications, and even OSes to keep that data yours if you want to.

Below is an excerpt of what is proposed.

Browser extensions

These extensions can help prevent connections to Google domains and also improve your privacy/security online.

  • An expanded list from u/R0B0LUT10N:

Web browsers

    • DuckDuckGo – 5-eyes – One of the best privacy-focused search engines. Domain is hosted in USA which could potentially be problematic for some.
    • searx.me – Open-source (thanks for clarification u/Sheezdudeln) privacy search engine. Domain hosted in Germany.
    • MetaGer – 14-eyes – MetaGer is the search engine project from the registered nonprofit organization SUMA E.V. in Germany.
    • Qwant – 9-eyes – Major improvements since 2018’s guide.
    • Swisscows – A Swiss search engine that offers a unique search experience for the web, images, videos, music, and more. They are currently funding a mail service. Read through their datacenter about page, it’s really interesting.
    • Mojeek – 5-eyes – Unlike other privacy search engines which act as a “middle man” between you and Google/Bing/Yahoo, Mojeek has their own crawler and index. The results aren’t as complete as some of the others, but it is still impressive and they are actively building their index to include more results with better accuracy.
    • Ekoru – Privacy focused search engine that also aims to clean up the oceans.
    • Cyberd – Decentralized Google. A web 3 alternative for the Google search engine. In Beta testing mode. Uses IPFS and Tendermint consensus for security and economic incentives. Please see their ELI-5 FAQ for more info.
    • Toki – Decentralized search engine. It is “designed to be anonymous, private and censorship-resistant.” (Parent company is Swiss, which is outside of 5/9/14 Eyes, however in testing I connected to a few USA and Canadian servers).
  • YouTube
    • PeerTube – Decentralized video hosting network. Still quite small, but is growing and has a dedicated community.
    • BitChute – Also P2P, but not decentralized. Due to it being proprietary, if BitChute goes down then the whole thing goes down (unlike PeerTube).
    • DTube – Looks very similar to YouTube. Advertised as “first crypt-decentralized video-platform”. Built on Steemit and IPFS.
    • Bit.tube – Appears to be a crypto-powered decentralized video sharing service.
    • Invidious – An open-source front-end alternative to YouTube. Seems to work pretty well from my experience so far, and it hasn’t triggered anything on my adblocker/privacy extensions. Also offers downloads in many formats for videos (including .vtt subtitles).
    • Hooktube – A slightly better way to use actual YouTube.
    • LBRY – A decentralized platform for distributing and supporting creators’s work.
    • US.TV – PeerTube instance hosted by Epik.com.
